Good morning Christine,
To start off this is an informal…review to post if it is helpful anywhere/thank you from the couple that visited you in Florence. I wanted to wait until the tintype arrived in the mail to have an adequate excuse to write.
I expected the photo experience to be a brusque in an out and that while it was a Christmas present I’ve been looking forward to for months, it would be an uneventful transaction. I was delighted to find out at the gate it would be a female photographer, and every part of our interaction after that was the best possible subversion of my expectations. Watching an artist at work and especially a brain that works in value versus hue to put together a thoughtful tintype image composition was fascinating. There was genuine care put into where you placed us, the nature of the light you selected, and a clear vision of what you wanted to capture. The end image is stunning and an heirloom treasure I will refuse to shut up about when showing anyone our home.
Beyond the product and service you offered, it was a refreshing, funny, and terribly interesting conversation you shared with us. Your honesty and unapologetic nature …was a breath of fresh air… From my enlistment in the United States Marine Corps and current work as an engineer in IT, I resonated deeply with your stories … This alone was well worth the 3 hour drive each way.
In the future I truly hope you consider doing more private portraiture or other avenues for tintypes…Whatever path you walk, Daniel and I intend to seek you out again in the future for pictures with aging family to remember by and more pictures of us…
Our conversation with you was so engrossing I was loathe to leave but wanted to respect your business operation and time.…
At the end of the day it was a privilege to meet you, to have a piece of your art to display in my home and look upon fondly, and a joy to share a conversation with a bold interesting woman. My contact is this email and (redacted phone number) if you want to share more stories over a coffee or if you ever consider studio portraits I could drag family to.
Respectfully,
Bridget Groves
